Latin honors recognise strong academic performance at graduation. If you earned them, they’re worth including, especially early in your career.
What the Honors Mean
- Cum laude: “with honor”.
- Magna cum laude: “with great honor”.
- Summa cum laude: “with highest honor”.
The GPA or class-rank thresholds vary by school, so there’s no single rule. Your diploma or transcript shows exactly what you received.
How to Format Them
Put the honor after your degree, in lowercase italics or plain text, separated by a comma:
Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, magna cum laude
University of Florida, Gainesville, FL | 2025
Alternatively, add a line underneath:
Bachelor of Science in Biology
Boston College, Chestnut Hill, MA | 2024
Honors: summa cum laude

You can, if it’s strong and you graduated recently. Many people rely on the Latin honor alone, since it already signals strong grades.
