How to Write an “About Me” Section on a Resume (With Examples)

How to Write an “About Me” Section on a Resume (With Examples)

An “about me” section, often called a professional summary or profile, sits at the top of your resume and introduces you in a few lines. Done well, it gives recruiters a reason to keep reading.

What to Include

  • Who you are professionally: your role or field and years of experience.
  • Your strongest skills that match the job description.
  • One or two achievements, ideally with numbers.
  • What you want to do next, if it helps explain your application.

Keep it to three or four sentences, or three short bullet points. Write it in the first person without “I” (for example, “Project manager with…”), which is standard resume style.

Examples

Experienced professional

Project manager with 7 years of experience delivering software projects for healthcare clients. Led a team of 12 to launch a patient booking system used by 40 clinics, finishing two weeks ahead of schedule. Skilled in Agile delivery, stakeholder management and budgeting.

Early career

Customer-focused sales associate with two years of retail experience and a record of exceeding monthly targets. Known for building rapport quickly and learning new products fast. Looking to grow into a sales team lead role.

Graduate

Recent accounting graduate with internship experience in audit and a strong command of Excel. Detail-oriented and comfortable working to deadlines. Studying for the CPA exam.

Career changer

Hospitality supervisor moving into HR, bringing five years of experience recruiting, training and scheduling a 25-person team. Completed a certificate in human resource management in 2026.

Tips

  • Tailor it to each job by reusing the most important words from the job description, where they’re true for you.
  • Lead with your most relevant strength, not your life story.
  • Avoid clichés like “hard-working team player”. Our guides to alternatives for team player and motivated can help.
