A promotion is strong evidence that an employer trusted you with more. Show it clearly so recruiters don’t mistake several job titles at one company for job hopping.
Option 1: Stack Titles Under One Company
List the company once, then each title with its own dates, most recent first:
Northwind Logistics, Chicago, IL
Operations Manager | March 2024 – Present
Operations Supervisor | June 2021 – February 2024
Add bullet points under each title. Focus the most detail on the current role.
Option 2: One Entry with a Promotion Note
If the roles were similar, use one entry and mention the promotion in a bullet:
- Promoted from Sales Associate to Senior Sales Associate within 12 months for exceeding targets three quarters in a row.
Show Why You Were Promoted
The most persuasive promotion bullets explain what led to it and what changed:
- Promoted to Team Lead after reducing ticket backlog by 40%; now manage six agents.
- Advanced from Analyst to Senior Analyst, taking ownership of the company’s monthly revenue reporting.
Multiple Promotions
Stack every title under the company with dates. For older roles, one or two bullets are enough; the progression itself tells the story.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Listing the company several times as if they were separate jobs.
- Only showing your current title, which hides your growth.
- Repeating the same bullet points under each title.
